The Hellingly Centre, our mental health unit providing care and treatment for people aged 18-65, is looking for an experienced hair stylist to offer hairdressing and barbering services to patients.
The inpatient unit cares for up to 60 people at a time, helping them to develop their confidence and day to day life skills, equipping them for life in the community.
Some of the patients may have been in contact with the criminal justice system.
Occupational Therapist Caroline Parfitt said: “It’s really easy to take a simple everyday task, like getting a haircut, for granted. But for the people we support and care for at Hellingly it’s often not that easy and we need to bring certain services in to them.
“We all know how much better a good haircut can make us feel - personal care and grooming is integral to a person’s recovery. We’re looking for a stylist who appreciates the positive impact a good haircut can have on a person’s wellbeing to visit the centre and provide regular haircuts to our patients.
“It’s an unusual environment to come in to but you will be fully supported and made to feel welcome by both staff and patients. If you’re a trained hairdresser who understands the importance of treating our patients with dignity and respect, whilst also respecting their confidentiality, we’d love to hear from you. You will be helping to make a real difference to the lives of those living with enduring mental health problems.”
The successful stylist will need to undergo a full Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before starting work at the centre.
Patients pay for the services they receive individually.
