An NHS workshop to help people live well with chronic hip, knee and lower back pain conditions is being held in Uckfield later this month.
The Living Well with Less Pain event will be held at the Uckfield Civic Centre on Wednesday, November 28 from 9.30am until 1pm and follows a similar event held in Eastbourne last month that attracted more than 100 people.
Sussex MSK Partnership East, in collaboration with Arthritis Action, will bring together top healthcare experts who will advise attendees who suffer from hip or knee osteoarthritis and lower back pain on what they can do safely and how to lower pain and live a fuller life.
Speakers include consultant surgeons, clinical specialist physiotherapists, pain specialists, a dietician, patient organisations, health and wellbeing experts and patients.
MSK stands for musculoskeletal and includes more than 200 different conditions affecting joints, bones, muscles and soft tissues. The Sussex MSK Partnership is an integrated NHS service provided by a team of clinical staff from multiple professions, including doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, occupational therapists, nurses, podiatrists and other health and social care staff. Services are provided from a range of locations including GP practices, community health centres and hospitals.
Anne Sabine, Patient Director for Sussex MSK Partnership East, said: “Unfortunately pain can be a part of everyday life for many people with MSK conditions but it can be worrying when it stops you from taking part in everyday activities. However, many musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions can be treated by people in their own homes with a little help, guidance and advice.
“What we tend to see is that once a patient is in pain they are often too frightened to move for fearing of making the pain worse. But if you keep moving you can reduce your pain and this is what our workshop will help people with.
“The first workshop that we held in Eastbourne was attended by more than 100 people – we were delighted with the interest shown and with the really positive feedback we received from people who attended.”
Places are limited for the Uckfield event and anyone interested in attending can book their place by calling 01323 408617 or online using this link.
