Neuropsychiatry 'non-epileptic attack disorder service

The neuropsychiatry 'non-epileptic attack disorder' (NEAD) service is based in the psychology department in Princess Royal Hospital and provides specialist psychological input for patients who have received a diagnosis of NEAD. Patients we see experience 'non-epileptic attacks' and also show a history of trauma.

Patients will receive an initial psychological and neuropsychiatric assessment that will determine the suitability of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for NEAD. The CBT intervention includes learning strategies to manage and reduce the attacks, incorporation and support for family members, partners and friends, trauma focused interventions, addressing behaviours that reinforce the attacks and the enabling of independence and confidence.
