Shining Star - Non-Clinical
Helen has the ability to inspire others and improve services through innovation and encouraging the participation of young people and their families.
Helen is our Innovation and Participation Lead for Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), a role which she has created from nothing and made her own.
Her commitment and dedication to listening to and learning from others – whether it’s young people, colleagues or partner organisations – is inspiring. Helen's passion to improve the lives of others drives her energy. She encourages and motivates others to be the best that they can be by supporting their ideas and helping them strive to improve.
Her dedication to ensuring that young people’s voices are heard has led her to developing a number of innovative and engaging projects, which have got young people involved in talking about mental health and emotional wellbeing. Her work has provided countless platforms and opportunities for young people to develop the ability and confidence to express themselves and be heard in a multitude of ways.
Her work has been consistently recognised and commended at local and national levels. One example of her work is developing a new website for Hampshire CAMHS, aimed at providing children and young people, families and healthcare professionals with high quality information and advice on mental health and wellbeing. The website was subsequently used as the basis of a Sussex CAMHS website.
Helen also created the SAFE (Suicide Awareness For Everyone) Campaign, after identifying a local need to raise awareness of youth suicide. Central to the campaign was the SAFE card, which contains useful resources for young people who are risk of suicide to help them stay safe. The idea was later adopted across Sussex Partnership, with SAFE cards aimed at adults being created and distributed across the whole of Sussex.
