Ella Fox-Stillwell

Apprentice of the Year

The new Nursing Associate apprenticeship has given our winner the opportunity to show her dedication and commitment to pursuing a career in healthcare.

When Ella joined Sussex Partnership in 2017 she had no experience working in care, but she knew it was where she wanted to make her career. Fast forward two years and she is now amongst our first cohort of trainee Nurse Associates, and hopes to be a fully qualified nurse by 2022.

Ella works at Lindridge, our care home in Hove which offers long and short term specialist health care for patients with complex physical health and end of life care needs, as well as people with dementia.

She demonstrated her commitment and flair for healthcare when she completed her care certificate training within just six weeks of joining Lindridge. She went on to support colleagues who needed a little extra help to get their qualification and she was quickly identified as an ideal candidate for the Trust’s new Nursing Associate apprenticeship.

Ella has embraced the learning and has completed a number of work placements including mental health, acute hospital (including theatres and pre-operation assessment unit) and community nursing. During one placement, a number of staff commented on how competent she was, praising her work ethic and character.

She has now entered her final year of training but continues to support her colleagues at Lindridge, where she is kind, compassionate and caring towards all of the residents. The Registered Nurses regularly comment on how they find her help invaluable.

Ella is also proving to be a role model for new, unqualified staff joining the Lindridge team. Recently she has been working closely with a Care Assistant and following Ella's example, support and advice, they have recently applied for, and been interviewed, for a place on the Nurse Associate training programme with Sussex Partnership.

In explaining why Ella deserved recognition, her nominator said: “All of us at Lindridge are so proud of her; she really is an asset not only to the home but to the whole organisation. She is without doubt a true success story.”
