Meet the team...Penny Pallant
Tell us a bit about your role
As a Case Manager I have a really varied role, which is why I enjoy the job so much. Part of my role involves screening referrals to the Provider Collaborative, sourcing eating disorder hospital placements and overseeing the delivery and quality of a person's care and treatment during their time as an inpatient.
Case Managers meet with their patients regularly to understand their experiences and to ensure that their needs are being met. We work with multiple providers within the NHS, social care and independent sector, so forming effective relationships is a key part of my role.
As a Case Manager, I am involved in planning for future service needs and supporting the transformation and quality of services. This has involved being part the Orri pilots, a virtual eating disorder day service managed by 'Orri at Home', and the 'Focused Admission Pilot' which has recently commenced at one of our specialist eating disorder inpatient hospitals. I also attend meetings to develop action plans to support patients with more complex needs.
As you can see, the role of Case Manager is diverse and provides numerous opportunities for personal growth and development as an individual, whilst maintaining the core principles of keeping the person at the centre of everything we do, being future focused and working together to deliver quality services to the communities that we serve.
How long have you been in your role/working for the Provider Collaborative?
I started working with the Provider Collaborative in May 2022.
What's your favourite thing about your job?
There are several things:
- Being passionate about what I do and the diverse nature of the role
- Working with patients and alongside so many different services
- Being able to visit hospital sites and develop relationships
- Supporting transformation and change.
How did you get into the role?
My previous role was as an Eating Disorders Practitioner with Sussex Eating Disorders Services (SEDS). I have also worked as a Case Manager in the private sector. These experiences, coupled with my passion for meeting the needs of people with an eating disorder, led me naturally to the role as a Case Manager with a Provider Collaborative for adult eating disorders.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to walk and be with my dogs. I seem to spend a lot of time training my 2-year-old labradoodle, Bonnie, who still embarrasses me frequently.
Being with my husband and 2 children (I have to say that!).
Spending time with close friends over a coffee.
Is there anything people would be surprised to know about you?
I am rubbish at small-talk and have an awful tendency to over-share.
I love any excuse to get my recorder out (still my original from primary school) and play a few tunes. Fortunately, my son loves this and encourages me!!
