Sussex Partnership appoints new Chief Medical Officer

3 October 2024

Dr Oliver Dale has been appointed as Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's new Chief Medical Officer.

Dr Peter Aitken, the Trust's current Chief Medical Officer, is retiring after more than 35 years of service to the NHS.

Oliver's clinical background is in community adult psychiatry. He has worked extensively in the field of personality disorder and is currently working with the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health addressing prejudice and discrimination relating to the diagnosis of personality disorder.

Oliver has been an advisor to NHS England on the development of community mental health services. He joined Sussex Partnership in May 2023 as clinical director for the community mental health transformation programme, before being appointed as Deputy Chief Medical Officer earlier this year.

Oliver said: "I am really excited about taking on this new responsibility at the Trust and look forward to delivering high quality care to the people who use our services."

Dr Jane Padmore, Sussex Partnership's Chief Executive said: "I am delighted to welcome Oliver to his new role. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge which I have no doubt will benefit our service users, their families and carers. I would like to thank Dr Peter Aitken for everything he has contributed to the Trust and for his many years of service to the NHS."

Dr Dale's appointment will take effect from 28 October 2024.
